Expected Results
reconstruction of the original polychromy of the Founder’s Chapel; characterization of materials and painting techniques used; raising awareness of the key role of colour at the time to create an image of power through heraldry and decoration; virtual visit to the 15th century polychrome chapel through an on-site application with online availability; opening a new field of research in Portugal; developing interdisciplinary synergies with various institutions for future projects.
Future relevance
this project at the Founder’s Chapel has been conceived as a pilot study to test methodologies and research practices with a view to applying them to further medieval architectural and commemorative sites in Portugal.
